Our Phonics classes are predominantly literacy based and we focus on mastering one story per half term.
Classes are 60 minutes and let by teacher Nats or Georgina, both qualified teachers from the UK. We focus on 3 age groups, please find more details about our group classes per age group below.
We welcome Mums, Dads or Nannies to attend with your little ones. Your child will have fun, while learning phase one phonics without even realising it.
Location of our venue is in The Sustainable City.
If you are interested, please book a class. Your FIRST class is FREE.
All our classes are adult/child classes - a caregiver must always accompany the child. Bookings are mandatory.
This group class is all about exposure and modelling, we tune those little ears into sound and feel rhythm in music and spoken language. We will play lots of listening games, voice games and songs, sing nursery rhymes and action songs. We will dance using scarves, beanbags and disco dough, these gross motor movements will filter to fine motor later. We play many phase 1 games, introducing the children to alliteration, rhyme, mirror work to develop pronunciation and oral blending.
These classes are super important in exposing little ones to these aspects of phase 1 phonics with the security of their grown ups, providing safe opportunities to have a go, take part and take on the challenges.
In this class we will see the magic happen! We consolidate everything from the younger classes, mastering those early phonics skills and beginning to apply them independently. Alongside this we will also focus on handwriting patterns, syllables in words and become experts in retelling stories, focusing on story language, comprehension, rhythm, characters, and expression. In this class children are exposed to the different sounds letters make as we learn a new sound each week. Children will bounce into FS2/KG1 with the mindset they are experts in storytelling and will have secured the foundations in reading and writing, this includes oral blending and segmenting which is crucial for independent reading.
By joining the class with their adult, not only will grown ups learn about how we teach phonics they will be aware of what their child can do confidently and areas we are working on.
What's the difference between Phonic Tots classes and Stay & Play classes? Nats will explain!
